Giving Light is a foundation that aims to bring light into the world by enabling people and communities in difficult circumstances to thrive.
This is possible if people there are given the opportunity to turn their own visions into reality. In Africa, countless passionate people are working on impressive projects, with in-depth knowledge of the local context. These projects don't require Western solutions. They need partners who listen, trust, and provide the resources to help them further realize their own plans.
Giving Light brings these projects and people together
We connect donors with proven, local initiatives that have already demonstrated their effectiveness. We don't dictate how a project should be implemented—that's up to the local community. We are partners and supporters, not saviors. This gives local leaders, young people, and women opportunities to develop skills and take responsibility. This builds capacity within the community itself, instead of creating a dependency on external aid. Furthermore, residents have more confidence in projects led by their own organizations, increasing the likelihood that the entire community will participate and benefit. Local organizations also operate more cost-effectively and efficiently: they know the suppliers and the rules of the game on the ground. This allows relatively small amounts to make a big difference.
